Objectives

World & Child Foundation works towards the realisation of the internationally agreed Millennium 2000 goals. In particular

  • goal 1: eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
  • goal 2: enable all children to attend primary school
  • goal 8: a global partnership for development

We put these goals into practice by enabling children to participate in basic education, and by supporting their parents so that they can generate sufficient income without the often necessary dependence on child labour.

How do we operate?

The foundation is active on Cebu and supports René Willems, a fieldworker from The Netherlands. Along with other activities, this fieldworker is charged with: assisting local partner organisations to defining projects; stimulating local input and leadership; working towards sustainability; and monitoring the ongoing projects on behalf of the sponsoring organisations and individual supporters.

Project Partners

The initiative and accountability for implementation of the projects lies with our local partners. These are duly recognised organisations, competent in this area, with a long standing track record.

Projects

Projects are currently underway to assist a slum area in Cebu City. Child & World Foundation supports a local initiative for social work based in a community centre. Courses and workshops are given in health promotion and the prevention of diseases, targeted at parents of school age children. In addition there is supervised homework assistance for the children on a daily basis. Along with this. a program has been set up for parents to improve income generation, including assistance with setting up small enterprises and help with obtaining micro credit.

Fund-raising

Child & World Foundation is responsible for fund-raising. This is done by soliciting support from private charitable funds, charity umbrella organisations (Wild Geese, Cordaid, Impulsis etc.), organising activities focused on fund-raising, and promotional publicity through the use of media.

Accountability

The Foundation is registered with the Chamber of Commerce in Utrecht under number 3025383 and has ANBI status with the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration. ANBI status means that donations are deductible for income tax under the usual conditions. The first yearly audit report is being prepared. This audit report will be available upon request. In The Philippines, the financial accounts are also verified by a certified accountant.
