Child and World benefit concert

The benefit concert, which we held on Friday June 18th, in the cafe of the Fulco Theater can be labelled a great success. Despite having less attendees than anticipated, we had a wonderful evening, with an atmosphere of great expectation. The auction we had organised went well, enabling us to collect a reasonable amount of money. Because of this, we have been able to put both the project and our foundation firmly on the map.

We are delighted to announce that we received around € 4500.- that evening.  The foundation “De Wilde Ganzen” will add another one third to this amount. We will also apply for a subsidy from the local government, which we hope to be in the region of €1500,=, since we seem to fulfil their requirements, and because we are the only ones applying for this subsidy so far. All together it means we managed to raise about € 8000. We are happy that by doing this we have been able to reach out a helping hand to the families in Cebu Slum.

How to proceed?

Despite this wonderful result, we need people who want to support this project on a monthly basis. For only € 30 per month you can ensure that one child can attend school. Apart from the necessary school uniform, we also take care of a healthy lunch and there we whole family by means of Community Development Programme which strengthens the functionality of the family.

We long for more people to support this work on a periodic basis. Even if this would mean only contributing €5 per month. Will you join us? We would find this wonderful!

All of this for only €1 per day!

Departure to the Philippines/ Start of the school year

Rene left for the Philippines on the 21st of June.  He is now busy with starting the project, managing the workers, and renewing contact with all the stakeholders.

The school year has now started in Cebu, and the children who will join our School Sponsorship Programme have been selected. Preparations are now underway, with the kitchen being made ready and transport arranged. Within a short time the project will start and we are eager to see how this will go. We have made all the necessary preparations; people have been trained; material have been supplied and we are just waiting for the official start.

Volunteers and the interns of the TU in Delft

We are very happy to announce that Arjan Smit, a volunteer, is coming out to Cebu in his vacation time to help prepare rooms for 5 students from the Technical University in Delft, who will work as interns for 4 months. They will be active in designing a product, which is part of their Masters assignment, that will both generate income for the project and also employ parents who have children in the SSP. These activities will also generate income for the project, and will help support it. So we have all the different elements working together to accomplish our goal.

Children to school

In January we will start preparations for the next school year. Summer Holidays on Cebu are in the months of April and May (at which time René hopes to be in The Netherlands for several weeks). Early in June we hope to place 50 children in the Education Support Program. We are aiming for 50 new applicants per year for the next 2 years, bringing the total to 150 children.

Delft University of Technology: Designing products and services for the Base of the Pyramid

Since December 18, talks are continuing with the TU-Delft’s Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, to explore the possibility of help by students or recent graduates. In this project, lasting several months, we will work with them to take a professional look at what could work best in terms of available people, resources and market opportunities for products manufactured by the parents of the children.
